20130725 INSPIRATION - LIVING OUT OF A SUITCASE

Images via Tumblr, French Voguettes, Stockholm Streetstyle

As title, I've been living out of a suitcase since April.

A few months ago, I chucked part of my life into one big suitcase and left everything else behind in the snowy London. After saying goodbye to my loved ones at Gatwick and a 12 hour flight with a lot water, coffee, wine, shallow reality shows, magazines, naps and turbulences. I arrived in Hong Kong.

Let's be honest, I've worn every single item I have in my suitcase like a million times. It kind of reminded me of the days when I was a poor student in my late teens, I survived with one suitcase for a year (but that's another story). Oddly enough, I started to like the idea of living out of a suitcase. It caused me to clear out anything irrelevant and focus on what I really needed/liked.

Here are my top 3 most worn items:
  1. Black leather shorts
  2. Black silk vest
  3. Black ballet flats
Clearly, my strategy is to stick with BLACK no matter what.

However, there are (a lot of) times when I feel like I have absolutely nothing to wear. I really have to rack my brain to figure out what to wear squeeze out of my creative juices and stretch the basics in my wardrobe. The good news is now I can get dressed in 30 minutes since I don't have a lot of options. Anyway, what I am trying to say is that most of us don't need 10 racks of clothes to look stylish/ presentable/ cool/ sophisticated/ sexy/ chic/ trendy (delete as required). I genuinely think it's all a matter of composition. If all else fails/ there's an emergency, I turn to Emmanuelle Alt for inspiration or go to Zara (Haha).

Have you ever been in a nothing to wear crisis? Share your experience with me. I love interesting stories... =)

Until next time x

  1. Oh I think sticking to black is a great strategy - one which I use a lot when I travel. Also, low maintenance clothes, things that don't need ironing and depending on where I go, things that dry quickly!

I did run out of clothes at one point of a 3 week trip, but I ended up in Zara.. lol :)
